Description
“Isla Diferente” is the title of the new album by Apulian producer Andrea Mangia aka Populous. It’s the first release on his newly founded label, Latinambient, a name initially conceived to describe the sound of the album, which later evolved into a sonic manifesto and record label. All the tracks were written between January and February 2024 during an artistic residency in Lanzarote. “Isla Diferente” (Different Island) is the nickname of the most mysterious of the Canary Islands. A unique place, shaped by lunar landscapes, silent volcanoes, untouched nature, and art. Andrea spent a month at Hektor, a finca in Los Valles, in the heart of the island, surrounded only by hills, crops, and farm animals. Lanzarote served as the backdrop for the creation of an album that seeks to explore its peculiarity through contrasts. Blending the ethereal sweetness of ambient music with the physicality of electronic and experimental latin rhythms, “Isla Diferente” attempts to capture the essence of an austere and wild place, where the lightness of the wind clashes with the hardness of imposing rocks, and where the white and green of the houses starkly contrast with the darkness of the volcanic soil. The album’s soundscapes evoke the vibrations of ecstatic dance, a movement that blends motion and transcendence through particular healing frequencies.
