Ex Voto is the closing piece and title track of my album - a collection of nine pieces for solo piano, violin, and cello. The title “ex voto” comes from the Latin ex voto suscepto — "from the vow made." It is an offering given in gratitude for a prayer answered or a wish granted. The music of Ex Voto is more personal and exposed than anything else that I have written.

Ex Voto’s main theme weaves in and out of a left hand triplet, creating a hypnotic cadence. This final track combines the emotions of the entire album and references snippets of melodies from the previous pieces. Ex Voto ends on a single note, creating a suspension that is resolved when the track is repeated. I love the idea that the music isn’t entirely over, it is a loop that infinitely repeats.
